Some of our favorite pieces in the shop are artifacts from the Aesthetic Movement, which spanned from 1870-1900. Conceived in England, the movement was a creative reaction to what was perceived as “ the inhuman result of the machine” in art, culture and the built environment.

Compared to iconic American mid-century designers such as Charles and Ray Eames, George Nelson, George Nakashima and Harry Bertoia, Percival Lafer’s work was not widely known or recognized until recent years. Thankfully, his work now enjoys the broader acclaim and appreciation that it well deserves.

The organic, textural aesthetic of these works is a beautiful expression of a time when technological developments were rapidly evolving.
